One of the first questions people ask before moving here. The short answer: everyday care is in town, hospitals are in La Paz and Los Cabos, and most foreign residents combine public and private coverage.

In town

Todos Santos has a public Centro de Salud, open 24 hours, on Degollado at Juárez, plus private doctors, dentists and pharmacies in the centre.

The nearest hospitals

  • La Paz, about an hour and a quarter by highway 19: Hospital Fidepaz (private), Hospital Juan María de Salvatierra (public, state) and the IMSS hospitals.
  • Los Cabos, about an hour south: private hospitals including H+ Los Cabos in San José del Cabo.

IMSS for residents

Temporary and permanent residents can enrol voluntarily in IMSS, Mexico's social-security health system. In 2026 the voluntary enrolment costs MXN 20,538.59 a year, it is non-refundable, and some serious pre-existing conditions are excluded. IMSS also offers family health insurance priced by age. Because of the exclusions and the waiting periods, most foreign residents keep private insurance as well.

Practical

  • Keep the numbers of the Centro de Salud, your doctor and the nearest private hospital on your phone.
  • Check whether your insurer pays hospitals in Mexico directly or reimburses you later.
  • Carry your residence card and insurance policy when you travel to La Paz or Cabo for appointments.

Residency, costs and the rest of the practical side are in the Buyer's Guide.
